So So Game Experience
The ticket pick-up at will-call was an average experience. Game time was 7:00pm and the lines for entry into the arena at 5:45pm were formed well beyond the food court in CNN Center. As for other services, the design of the arena provided limited food service and restroom facilities for our portals. We received quick food service at the upstairs bar in time for tip off. The sight-lines were great, but the sound amplification for PA and music was horrible. From this point is where the experience is "so-so". Our seats were Aisle 319, Row Q. It was as if there were no speakers directed to our area. During the game, I found quicker access to restroom facilities by re-entering Girl Named Tom. I have to say I have never felt more removed from the game experience for a Hawks game. The MARTA trip home was a disaster, but that is out of Philips control. (The trains were not prepared for the crowd, nor travel to North Springs). The lines were short and the service was fast. I enjoy attending Hawks games, and like Philips Arena, but if I sit in the upper seats again I will sit only between portals 6 and 26. We made the decision to eat at Girl Named Tom, as we could make entry into Philips Arena from the restaurant. There was only limited beverage service for several aisles on the landing, yet the arena was sold out. (Several kiosks were never opened, bad management decision). I found it more lively in the Girl Named Tom during my restroom break, as you could hear more on the TV sound. Game seating experience: I have sat high and low in this arena for basketball, but this was my first time sitting beyond portal 26.
